Artist Bio:
Fredrik Strid is a Sweden-based artist whose practice is primarily focused on sculpture. His work pays close attention to nature and to the ways nature is represented and constructed within our culture. He has a particular interest in Natural History museums and their systems of classification, display and representation.
Materiality plays a central role in Strid’s practice. His works often create a subtle tension between the visible and the unseen. Material, technique and the process of making become integral to the conceptual idea. Strid describes his practice as that of a “tactile conceptual artist.”
Strid is represented in several public art collections, including the Swedish National Art Council, Eskilstuna Art Museum, Malmö Art Museum, Skissernas Museum, Uppsala Art Museum and Region Skåne. In 2024, his extensive sculpture installation All Birds in Sweden premiered in the solo exhibition Making Nature at Skissernas Museum. In recent years, his work has also been presented in solo exhibitions at Varberg Kunsthalle and The Rackstad Museum.

In 2026, Strid was awarded the Asmund and Lizzie Arles Sculpture Prize by the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Swedish Arts Council’s long-term scholarship. He has been a studio fellow at IASPIS in Stockholm and has taught sculpture at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. He has completed numerous public commissions across Sweden, including works for Gothenburg, Borås, Linköping and Umeå University. His latest public work was completed for Linköping Municipality in spring 2026.
Strid received a Master of Fine Arts from the Malmö Academy of Fine Arts and also studied at UCLA in California. He is based at Persbo Studio in northern Uppland, Sweden.
