Exodus consists of thirteen life-size animal groups, cast in and blackened Acrystal, arranged in a caravan-like procession almost five metres in length. The animals were originally sculpted in clay, with real objects incorporated into them—carrots, ropes, a flour bag and other everyday things.
The animals represent different relationships to human life: domestic animals such as cats and dogs, opportunistic animals such as rats and mice, and wild animals living alongside us in urban environments. With associations of migration, desperation and the necessity of movement, Exodus becomes a parallel to human journeys, bringing the animals’ conditions and strategies for survival into focus.
The work was first exhibited in the group exhibition The Non-Human Animal – Negotiating Bio-relations at Uppsala Konstmuseum in 2019.
