A four-metre-tall white stalagmite on a base is frozen in the middle of the sculptural process. Clay, plaster, rags and tools remain embedded in the work, like traces of its making.
The sculpture resembles a fossil or a frozen moment in time. The artist attempts to replicate what nature takes thousands of years to produce: a stalagmite. A Sisyphean project, doomed from the outset, compressed into a single sculptural moment.
The work explores the tension between geological time and the brief span of human time, while the traces of the artist’s presence remain suspended within it.
The work was first exhibited in the solo exhibition White Shadows at Ebeling Museum in 2022.
